Bangalore International Convention CentreMinister for Infrastructure and Tourism G. Janardhana Reddy said the Cabinet has cleared a proposal on the construction Rs. 1,100-crore International Convention Centre (ICC) near the international airport at Devanahalli on public private partnership.

The international convention centre would come up on 35 acres land given to the Tourism Department by the Infrastructure Department. Out of 400 acres surplus land, 35 acres had been given to the tourism department.

Soma Enterprises of Hyderabad has been selected in the bidding. Some Enterprises has deposited Rs. 20 crore with the Tourism Department. The lad would be given to the developer on a 30 year lease period, he said.

However, the minister denied any discrimination in the allotment of the project to the Hyderabad based company. He said all the process was done in a transparent manner. You can see the files no problem he said.

The centre, which is expected to have a seating capacity for 5,000 persons, will have facilities such as star hotel, entertainment area, an exhibition centre and a banquet hall.  The Cabinet has decided to fill vacant posts in the Translation Directorate through the Karnataka State Public Service Commission.
