Late on Tuesday, builders of the UB complex started demolishing the paved forecourt that jutted into the road, in the presence of BBMP officials.

Three days after the encroachment of Vittal Mallya Road by promoters of UB City was first reported in these columns, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has swung into corrective action.
Late on Tuesday, builders of the complex started demolishing the paved forecourt that jutted into the road, in the presence of BBMP officials. UB City is a commercial complex constructed by UB Ltd., and Prestige Developers.
Deccan Herald had on Saturday reported the encroachment, that had reduced the road width by three metres.
Following the report, Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde summoned the BBMP Engineer-in-Chief seeking an explanation on the encroachment and corrective measures to be taken.
With the demolition of the forecourt, the road will be reverted to its original width, BBMP Chief Engineer B T Ramesh said.
Justice Hegde said he was “happy” at the prompt action taken by BBMP.  “I would, however, like to know the extent to which they have cleared the encroachment. I’ll ask my engineers to find out whether they have done the job properly or not,” he told Deccan Herald.
