BANGALORE: Residents of the upmarket Hosur-Sarjapur Road (HSR) Layout (Also Called as Kengal Hanumanthaiya Layout ) need no longer fear rains.

Construction of two bridges over the Agaram Valley storm water drain and remodelling the drain to carry a maximum of 135 cusecs — two long-pending measures promised by the Bangalore Development Authority — was inaugurated by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday.

The infamous rains in October 2005 had inundated hundreds of houses in this low-lying areas of Sector 6 and 7 of HSR Layout, which are especially vulnerable to flooding as it is situated around several natural tanks including Agara, Madivala, Begur, Hulimavu, Puttenahalli and Chinnagere.

More than 9,000 residences in the layout are built along the natural line of flow of water. The earlier culvert at the junction of 14th Main Road of HSR Layout and Outer Ring Road was too narrow to carry the maximum discharge of 135 cusecs from HSR Layout, which was one of the reasons for flooding. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for building additional floors at the existing BDA Complex at the cost of Rs. 4 crore.

Master Plan 2015

Mr. Kumaraswamy told presspersons that the Master Plan 2015, a comprehensive document on land use in BDA limits, would be out by the end of this month.
