When everything appears to be going well for the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) in terms of the peripheral road, the Gottigere Lake issue is hindering further development of the road connecting Bennerghatta Road with Kanakapura Road. In view of the environment aspect, BMIC promoters NICE prepared a blueprint to align the road instead of constructing pillars over the Gottigere lake.

The government, in violation of the SC interim stay, asked NICE on November 4 to put the pillars on the lake. But NICE chose to comply with SC directive and went in for the alignment .The HC, while dismissing the governments plea said” the respondents are directed not to lay any road bisecting the Gottigere lake, preventing or disturbing inflow of water in to the lake.

NICE said its unable to lay road on pillars citing the density and width of the foundation will destroy the two thirds of the lake “Our contention has been upheld by IISc which in its study ,states that the only viable alternative to the roads is to align ,instead of constructing pillars”.
