New guidelines for registration of revenue sites will be ready within a week, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shetter said here on Thursday .Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Revenue site owners welfare Association, he said registration of revenue sites around Bangalore, which had been stopped, would resume after the new guidelines are announced.

“There are several hurdles in the way of resuming registration of revenue sites. Revenue and law officials are looking into them. The new guidelines would be announced within a week” he said.

Referring to the menace of the land mafia around Bangalore, he said the ordinance providing for stringent punishment to such offenders had been issued and would be enforced without harassing the honest citizens. The minister clarified that there were no restrictions on the registration of agricultural land in the state. However, utilization of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes would not be allowed unless the land had been converted for other purposes.

The ban on the land conversion in force for the past four months around Bangalore on the directions of BMRDA has been lifted recently.

Representatives of the Revenue site owners welfare Association, urged the minister to not only lift the ban on registration of revenue sites but also regularize already registered sites.
